Start with the record and sample size
W, L, and OTL mean wins, losses, and overtime losses. Win percentage is wins divided by total games. A club with three wins from three games has a perfect record, but that small sample says less than a long season against varied opponents. EA ranking points are displayed as reported. The directory order is not an independent skill rating.
Use rates alongside totals
Goals per game equals goals divided by games played. Points per game equals a skater’s goals plus assists divided by skater games. Shooting percentage equals goals divided by shots on net, multiplied by 100. Compare players in similar roles and game modes. A defender’s work is not represented by points alone.
- Check games played before comparing rates.
- Compare points, shots, and shooting percentage together.
- Review takeaways, giveaways, blocked shots, and penalties for defensive context.
- Use a recent game box score to understand an unusual season average.
Read goalie stats with care
Save percentage is saves divided by shots faced. Goals against average is displayed from EA when available. It is not calculated by treating every appearance as a full game. A missing field appears as Not reported, while a measured zero remains zero. Team shots and human goalie shots can differ when lineups or goalies change.
Keep the scope visible
A club roster table reports that club’s member data. A player lookup reports the scope EA returns for the player. A saved matchup shows one game. These totals are not interchangeable. The page labels identify the source and scope, and the methodology page explains calculations.
